On December 23, Nick fell and was unable to stand.  He was bleeding internally and they were unable to initially find the source.  It ended up being his heart.  The prognosis wasn't good and Nick left us on December 24, 2013.  Thanks to Russ Brewer for his guidance and all of the staff at CARE animal Hospital for their professionalism and compassion.

  3. So sorry Jim and Judy. Nick was a great little dog and I know his sudden passing leaves a huge hole in your hearts. I remember him way back in the early days at WAG in class and how naughty and funny he could be. I remember Judy getting her first MACH with him. What a great journey he's had with you. He was just an awesome guy. You both gave him a great life.

  8. Judy and Jim, I am so sorry. There are no words that can ease your pain. It just stinks and I know it hurts.

I remember the first time I met him and I offered him a treat. OUCH! As he chomped on my fingers. But I didn't care and gave him treats any time I saw him. I could never resist those eyes.

I also remember the first time we took holiday pictures. His ears were plastered back for the group picture and I had to photoshop them in. But the next year he was more relaxed and his ears were up and he looked so happy.

Nick will be missed by many but none more than the two of you. Hugs to both of you during this difficult time.

  10. We are so blessed to have our dogs albeit for too short a time. Some we have for a full long life and some for way too short a time. They all leave us with the pain that seems will never go away. The pain becomes different over time, it no longer hurts but is a much stronger feeling than pain. Sometimes we cry for what we have lost, sometimes we cry for the joy they gave, sometimes we laugh out loud at a memory, sometimes it's just a smile, sometimes it's anger, and sometimes just sadness. All the feelings are there because of the life they shared with us and the feelings show us how much they impacted our lives and made us better. Those that come after benefit from what we were taught by those that have gone ahead. Cherish all that you feel now and forever, knowing that Nick is at the core of those feelings!

  13. Jim and Judy - you were so fortunate to have this little guy in your lives. He truly lived up to his name as the "jolly ol' soul" and brought a smile to everyone he met, and he did want to met everyone!! Keeper and Ace and I send thoughts and prayers for your family in this time. He was truly one of a kind.

  16. (from Diane Kuby) If I remember correctly, I first met both of you and Nick at my very first WAG UKC trial. You not only provided inspiration of what a great agility team could accomplish but you also imparted much wisdom about the joys of turning a throw-away, rescue dog into a terrific companion and competitor. For that encouragement and for the example you set, I and Max will always be thankful to you and Nick.

Give all your dogs a big hug as I'm sure they are missing their best friend too.

  17. Judy and Jim, I'm so sorry. What a big hole in your hearts that Nick leaves. He was such a special dog that touched so many lives and brought a smile to everyone he met. I'll always remember how I was his favorite girlfriend. . . well until another woman would come by! Ole Nick was quite the womanizer. I also remember his favorite AKC rule: when he no longer had to do a sit or down on the table. That made his day! Treasure the memories.

  18. When people find themselves smiling as they remember Nick, like I'm doing right now, you know that you were blessed to have shared your life with them. I hope that you and Judy find peace and healing as you focus on the life and not the death of such a wonderful little dog that shared so much love and joy with you and those around you.

  21. Judy & Jim, I didn't know Nick but from your story I can see that he made an incredible journey from biting, naughty pet store puppy to wonderful, happy, well adjusted part of your family, thanks to the fact that two people came along that took the time and effort to give him a chance and the right training. I'm really sorry for your loss.

  23. Dear Jim and Judy,
I am so very sad about your sweet Nick. These gentle (sometimes mischievous) souls enter our lives and take a piece of hearts. I will remember the obvious joy when he and Judy ran. I know you and your "shelties" will give each other comfort. Eileen Doherty
